Patience and persistence. In my experience, dream recall starts with little snippets and gradually, over several months, becomes more and more detailed. It helps if, when I wake in the middle of the night, I jot down a few notes about the dream I'm having so that in the morning I can remember it. Also, I find waking up without an alarm and, if possible, without turning my attention immediately to the concerns of the upcoming day really helps me to remember dreams.
I think remembering dreams is a great example of Ra's "courting the maiden" -- the careful wooing of the subconscious by the conscious.
