We can each build a model of understanding of what reality is for ourselves, but we cannot actually perceive the real while veiled.

Incidentally, this is also what science believes about our reality, that our brains are only making models of reality from what our senses are feeding the brain with and that we can never be aware of what reality really is. Stephen Hawking has used many analogies in his books to this effect (like the fish bowl analogy).
