I'm very blessed to be able to be staying in the house that my grandma owns at the moment. I'm sure the neighbors don't much appreciate how we let things overgrow a little more than is usually acceptable in a neighborhood setting but that is indeed their catalyst to deal with. It's not my fault the critters' favorite snacks are the ones that grow in the driveway cracks! Also, we did absolutely nothing to dissuade the rabbit that dug a nest hole in the smack middle of the front yard, so now there's a patch that hasn't been mowed sticking up.
Maybe an eyesore to some, but lawns in general are not my cup of tea.
Very blessed. I hope from your apartment/whatever vantage you at least have some nearby flora/fauna to bond with! I promise it takes the tiniest bit of effort before they will go out of their way to try to find you.
