The problem with MJ for pain relief, medical card or not, is pain management clinics drug test and won't give out any meds if they detect THC in you system. If you attempt to show your card, they say don't bother. Since the pain relief ascociated with MJ only last a few hours and you can't take it all day while driving or at work, you will most likely need something stronger than an over the counter pain med. The same also goes for employers, despite wether you have a card or not, they can discriminate against you irregardless.
So until American society (plus the pharmaceutical industry/large corporations) rid themselves of the taboo, it won't matter that its legal on a state level for some.
