Dream, characters and consciousness

So when I'm having a dream where I interact with someone else, say I'm dreaming that I'm having a picnic with my brother.

Is my brother's character (actions, words, appearance, etc) 100% created by my own mind or do I somewhat access an actual part of his consciousness that comes to 'play' his character in my dream ?

I believe our guide/guides start interacting when we show a desire for learning.

Last night I had a dream in pattern recognition, and then it was "story time". So went from college level instruction to elementary school stuff.
It was a lesson in humility. I had to know when to stop talking about college level stuff and just enjoy story time.

I'm not sure how it works with other people though. But I have experienced the consciousness of my guide in several dreams.

I think that depends on your brother's awareness/involvement. I think most of the time it is probably both, varying on a spectrum, heavily weighted towards it being a creation of your own mind.
