My need to protect myself is blocking my third eye

I have a tough dilemma. I know deep down that I'm clairvoyant and highly intuitive. Several psychics/light workers have confirmed this as well. 

But I'm unable to unlock these abilities to their fullest, due to fear of what I might "see". I find it very hard to let go of the idea that I might see/feel/hear something and that it'll scare me. I want nothing more than to unlock these abilities, but this fear is holding me back. 

Do you have any tips/guidance for letting this fear go?

I would think patience is the best avenue, maybe let your talents find expression when your best able to use them. Im finding as time moves along how important meditation is. Welcome to the forum.

Abilities will come naturally as you meditate and connect more with your higher self/god/the universe. Focusing on the abilities and trying to develop them can lead to imbalances and burning out the talent so to speak.

There are many methods for letting go of the fear. The simplest and one of the most effective is to enter a meditative state, then explore your fear, find out as much as you can about it and what it is you truly fear and why, then accept that fear as part of yourself, and let it dissolve of flow into the earth.

One may note that much the general process of self discovery involves taking a long time to become prepared to accept the stuff (about self) which you find difficult to accept.  So, in some sense, you might as well relax about it because you might find this pattern popping up again and again and again at various succeeding levels.  For whatever it might be worth, I know for a fact that I would be far more at ease and happy and self-integrated if I wasn't so worried about what I might have to give up, etc., in order to accept more self-knowing, if I was more enamoured with encompassing love.  And knowing this does not make the process any easier.  Love is a funny thing, indeed.

I would say that you have already done the most important part - you have (correct) analyzed the situation.

Now you are asking how to overcome your fear about what you might see.
There will be no easy answer for this - this is a general work each seeker has to master.

My experience is, that you simply should take the time that it needs to overcome the fear.
You already know about your abilities and the consequences, just approach cautiously to use them.

There is the possibility to learn to keep the needed distance to the things you will experience.
When fear is coming up, go into the position of an observer of the fear and analyze the origin of it.
You will maybe find out, that the origin of the fear is not yourself and that you only have to secure, that the fear will not get a part of yourself.
Or you will maybe find out, that it is only the fear of something unknown and that you only have to accustom it.
