Will somebody please change the subtitle. The common term for somebody interested in Science & Technology is a "Nerd". Geeks are a different breed and are no association to Nerds. It would be appreciated. I have been a Nerd since the invention of the PC.

The meaning of both terms has varied across places and decades, from various references I've encountered. Sometimes the distinction is clearer, sometimes not, sometimes it's been the opposite (geek used as the more serious label), but the modern senses seem to become more and more as mentioned, especially as a result of "geek" becoming a commercialized label (thus gaining a shallower sense, almost synonymous with "fan" depending on what the fandom is about). For example, a nerd who also happens to really like some video games is nowadays both a nerd and a geek.

I personally don't really care about changes in wording either way. But if you want to move the "geek" part of labeling elsewhere, maybe it can be squeezed into the description for "Art, Media, & Entertainment" (where games are sometimes discussed).

It seems that this forum would be a home for both nerds and geeks, along with those who identify as neither. : )

I would suppose that those of us passionately invested in Law of One study may likewise be Law of One nerds or geeks. Personally I love the expression "to geek out [on something]," particularly when like-minds meet who share a similar passion about a subject, like geeking out on the Law of One.

Huh? As far as i know, the term 'nerd' predates pc and was used as a derogatory nickname for those who were bookish and studious. Whereas geek has come to prominence in mid 2000s after proliferation of Internet as it became mainstream, from its original roots in which it meant people who get immersed in technological stuff.

I remember the time when people were afraid of being called 'geeks' in early 2000s for fault of being seen as too much into technology. Then Facebook and social media came, computers and internet became a daily thing, and suddenly the word 'geek' became desirable. A lot of people who would avoid the word started calling themselves geeks.

My first computer was an "Amstrad 1512" with two 5 1/2 floppy disks drives, (360K). Followed by an "Amstrad 1640", with a, (massive), "32MB" hard disk. Prior to those, I had an another Amstrad computer, (number unknown), with a cassette tape. Ten minutes to load a program, (the agony). When I bought the PC, it was a Quantum Leap, (for Humanity).

Technology moves in mysterious ways? Long live the cassette tape. They were fun. Until they got twisted and then they became unplayable. I shall defile the "God(s) of Technology" for allowing Humans to invent the cassette tape. What were they thinking?

I remember when nerd was like "hikkikomori" or "otaku" in Japan. Socially inept or anti social, was not considered a good thing by most human societies.

Now there are companies calling themselves "The Geek Squad". As tech support. Funny.

A, (hypothetical), question? How did Humanity exist before digital technology, (how Humanity suffered). Back at the "Dawn of Mankind", when Humanity left the caves for the last time and they invented analogue technology, at the time it was considered advanced technology. Had we not just stopped cooking our meals on open fires, and the invention of television. It was a Quantum Leap, (Humanity was saved). The a Great One came to save Humanity. The "Nerd". It was the Nerd that saved Humanity. Honor the "Nerd". He will always be remembered for being the Savior of Humanity. A "Geek" is nothing more than the "Great Pretender", (and a sham). Never trust Geeks. You never know where they have been.

A point of interest? A few minutes ago I had an update for "Windows 10". As the update was installed, and it went through the updating process. It was the same as when you start a computer for the first time, or when you reinstall Windows. I had the impression that the Windows Operating System was rewritten, (from new). Have I noticed any differences? The keyboard is a lighter touch, and, (supposedly), there are more functions in "Microsoft Edge", (which I am yet to find). Although after the update, it left a nice orange background on the "Wallpaper", (which I will leave on for a few days). Thank you Mister Bill Gates.
