in both Ra and Q'uo, it is stressed time and time again the importance of clearing the first 3 energy centres before the higher work is done.
in my own system of viewing the chakras, the first three (red, orange, yellow) form one triad, and the three above that (green, blue, indigo) form another one. This is 'topped off' or crowned by the violet ray centre.
This 'lower triad' is the basis for the time-space work that is done in the higher triad. Without the grounding of red, orange, and yellow, one becomes a flimsy, insecure, doubt-ridden vessel for higher work, and one that can be easily manipulated into doing some very bizarre things.
to re-iterate:
red: deals with survival issues and attitudes. do you stress about money? do you stress about your living conditions (can afford your rent, pay for groceries). do you feel safe sleeping at night (no prowlers etc). do you need a gun?
orange: personal power attitudes towards the self. Deals with self-esteem, and most importantly, self confidence. Do you trust yourself? do you trust what you say? do you say something, and then endlessly revise it, to see if you could have done it better? (living in the past, self-critical, not good enough). do you think you are a valuable human being?
yellow: deals with social attitudes, and ability to interact and communicate. Can you work in a group, or do you always clash, and you're left to one side, by yourself, fuming and angry? can you share your thoughts, and others appreciate them, even though they might not agree totally, but you can have a 'conversation' about it, without turning it into an argument or debate (ego wanting to win over the other, force it's view on the group or others, 'you're wrong' etc etc).

these may sound like simple concepts, but they do present many issues for people. Ra offered this:
you may indeed read the 'Law of One', appreciate and understand it ... but with blockages in the first triad, it will be difficult to actually put into practice, or live according to the principles of unity.
Q'uo mentions on a few occasions that clearing the first triad (first three energy centres) opens up and increases the potential flow that is available to the heart centre (green ray of acceptance and love), so the more blocked in the first triad, the less the Heart is available for actual work.
and as positive-oriented entities, the Heart Centre is the great crux and pivot point. It occupies the central place in all magical workings. Green then enables blue (green and blue being intimately linked, in no way can wisdom be considered without the due consideration of love) and then this love/wisdom blend is perfected in the inspiration of the indigo.

so truly, the lower triad deserves an equal place to the upper triad in one's seeking. They all deserve equal attention.
I can only say that most of the 'personality issues' that one may have are rooted in the lower triad. And they can also be resolved there. Quite easily at times, when they are exposed for what they are.
