Last night I was falling asleep and realized “it’s bed time.” So I began my prayer and I nodded off somewhere in the middle. But I heard a kind of echo, which was not an audible sound, in the “in between state”, as I like to call it. I woke back up, and I finished my prayer and went to bed.
This in-between state is fascinating! You can consciously observe your mind while entering into it if you’re paying attention. I notice this quite often when I go to take a nap in the middle of the day. You are observing your mind. Strange thoughts occur and strange sounds and visuals are mentally heard/seen. (Less visual for me, but i recall hearing loud “sounds” that weren’t really sounds.) I recently heard someone speaking and saying that the mind is not being filtered in this state of consciousness so it seems like the thoughts are “out there”, let’s say.
Another way to consciously observe shifts in consciousness is through meditation. Again, if one is paying attention, one will notice these distinct shifts in mind. Sometimes I can enter into a state of deep calm, where my mind is silent and focused and my body is still. It’s an effortlessness ease when you’re in that state to just sit completely still and rest in the silence (random thoughts are no longer coming up). Tbh, I’ve only encouraged this calm a handful of times throughout the past two-three years. But it’s a clear shift, in my perspective.
Does anyone want to share their knowledge and experiences about these “in between states” or shifts in consciousness? Have you seen or heard anything interesting?
