Oh my lord this is fantastic. It just gets better and better, and does great justice to the original song. Thank you for sharing.

Just listening to this album recently, I realized it might have some of the most profound metaphysical lyrics of any album I've ever heard.  Not from the point of view of expressly discussing esoterica, but from a purely aesthetic / emotional point of view.  That's what makes it so great -- it talks about such subtle characteristics of the mystery of existence. Neutral Milk Hotel writes poetry that seems to take a very archetypal view of what embodiment is like, how it feels and how memory mixes with sensation.

I very much agree with your assessment. I have a Pandora station based on Neutral Milk Hotel that I have been listening to for years. It has yielded a great many amazing new discoveries in music and songwriters. The Shins come to mind, Iron and Wine, The Decemberists and Colin Meloy:

O Lord, what kind of fountain is this Fountain of Love --
of which I tasted but a drop, though I wept a river?

When action comes from another sector, you lose this feeling.
