Meditation Techniques - Rake - 06-20-2013 For a while i have been struggling with meditation to silence my mind. (It doesnt help having builders 5 meters away destroying a house). So i thought I would make a thread where people can post their meditation techniques to help me and anyone else having trouble. RE: Meditation Techniques - Jeremy - 06-20-2013 Earplugs are a must for me. I get completely distracted If I hear even the slightest of sounds RE: Meditation Techniques - zvonimir - 06-20-2013 http://esotericonline.net/docs/library/Theosophy/H.P.%20Blavatsky/Annie%20Besant%20-%20Thought%20Power.pdf THOUGHT POWER ITS CONTROL AND CULTURE By Annie Besant perhaps this little book of 31 pages can be of help here i copied a small piece of it from page 21: The Ego has, for a long series of lives, been carried about by the mind in all its swift movements, as a man is ever being carried through space by the whirling earth. He is not conscious of movement; he does not know that the world is moving, so thoroughly is he part of it, moving as it moves. If he were able to separate himself from the earth and stop his own movement without being shivered into pieces, he would only then be conscious that the earth was moving at a high rate of speed. So long as a man is yielding to every movement of the mind, he does not realise its continual activity and restlessness; but when he steadies himself, when he ceases to move, then he feels the ceaseless motion of the mind he has hitherto obeyed. If the beginner knows these facts, he will not be discouraged at the very commencement of his efforts by meeting with this universal experience, but will, taking it for granted, go quietly on with his task. And, after all, he is but repeating the experience voiced by Arjuna five thousand years ago: didnt want to copy all 4 pages (21 to 24) iz would seem like noise RE: Meditation Techniques - Rake - 06-20-2013 (06-20-2013, 08:29 AM)zvonimir Wrote: http://esotericonline.net/docs/library/Theosophy/H.P.%20Blavatsky/Annie%20Besant%20-%20Thought%20Power.pdf Interesting i'll give it a read later. I've worked with obtaining complete silence for years now. I love to meditate, but it's not easy to obtain a complete silence. So, be patient with yourself, and have compassion. It's not easy. Silence itself I see as a vast, infinite ocean, or the Creator. It is everpresent, yet so difficult to reach. It is like deep space, everywhere... Infinite... Magical... Whenever I am lucky these days to merge with this complete silence, I see it as mergings with the Creator Itself. Otherwise, when for instance working with balancing the mind complex, it is not this complete silence that one is trying to reach, but silence of the mind from all the mumbo jumbo, so that one can work with balancing for instance. RE: Meditation Techniques - Jade - 06-20-2013 My husband submerges himself in the bathtub, up to his ears at least (sometimes face down with his eyes closed), kind of like a make-shift sensory deprivation tank. He's a water person anyway, loves water, so just a suggestion for anyone that thinks it might help. RE: Meditation Techniques - Daydreamin - 06-20-2013 I am very interested in this and thanks for the book link. I really feel like I ought to be meditating but somehow can never make it past 5 or 10 minutes. What am I 'really' missing out? Any help/feedback is very much appreciated. RE: Meditation Techniques - Guardian - 06-20-2013 I have tried several techniques. Nothing has worked as well for me as a free 10 day vipassana sitting. I can think of no better way to master silence of the mind than this. You will have complete silence by day 3. http://www.dhamma.org/ RE: Meditation Techniques - reeay - 06-20-2013 Here are some older threads where people share techniques & other insight and resources: On Meditation 3-minute healing meditation helpful healing meditation Meditation techniques? Yesterday I noticed a rainbow effect trailing the objects I would pass on the highway. This effect was exactly like something I saw in the dream state, where focusing on an object made it start to separate into refractive colors. Watching the color effect made me very curious, and after a bit I asked what I was seeing. I was told that a rainbow is a 'visible intersection of dimensions'. I have no idea what to think of that so far. RE: Meditation Techniques - Wai - 06-24-2013 (06-20-2013, 06:56 AM)Rake Wrote: For a while i have been struggling with meditation to silence my mind. Hi Rake, Everyone has his or her own technique. I suggest you try as many as you can and find out which one will work for you. It took me more than 10 years trying different techniques before I am able to meditate. I have tried Buddhist meditation techniques, Vispassana, watching the breadth, and Raja Yoga method (focusing on a dot of light). None of these worked for me. What finally worked was a technique that I learned from an Indian swami. This technique uses mantras and is passed down from gurus to practitioners through word of mouth. RE: Meditation Techniques - AnthroHeart - 06-24-2013 I pay attention to my breathing. The last few days I've tried to meditate, I feel some anxiety coming out. When I get into it, I feel free at times, anxious at other times. I don't speak during my meditation, so I've never used mantras. RE: Meditation Techniques - zvonimir - 06-30-2013 "Quo" was reading Sunday Meditation February 24, 1991. and came across this part of mediation explanation so i thought it may be helpfull to you There are other means of working upon knowledge of the self. One passive but extremely helpful way is meditation. Now, meditation has been greatly misunderstood among your peoples. It is thought that one is to make one’s intelligence a blank tablet, a “tabula rasa.” One is supposed to find silence within. Only then in that silence is the meditation considered successful. This is not our understanding of the helpful value of meditation. The intention of those who meditate is that they may be open to spiritual grace—not knowledge, for there is no such absolute within third density—but grace. Thusly, whatever thoughts come into the mind, even if they pelter one, moment by moment by moment, it is the resistance to this listening to the voices within that cannot be stilled that creates a poor meditation. If one is simply mindful, and notes without emotion or condemnation each thought that moves through, allowing it to arise, allowing it to dissolve, then meditation has done that which it was intended for. It has allowed the entity to step back from the trees and see the forest. It has removed the tension of judgment and consideration and allowed a time that is truly free, a time in which the observer may simply watch thoughts arise and dissolve. Not turning them away, not holding onto them. One may plan an entire menu, a shopping list or any other thought whatsoever during meditation if it is observed without that feeling of necessity to solidify the intelligence of the mind around the shopping list or the menu. I will go through periods where I will constantly fight the thoughts out of my head just to create that "blank" space where I thought I was supposed to be. Its also the main reason it takes me a good 45 minutes to fall asleep at night. I'm definitely gonna have to try this RE: Meditation Techniques - BrownEye - 06-30-2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veW3XfY6cT0 RE: Meditation Techniques - AnthroHeart - 07-01-2013 Then Ra I think talks about a type of meditation where you focus on silence in order to experience Creator. RE: Meditation Techniques - Bat - 07-01-2013 I simply focus on the breath as it comes in and out of the tip of the nose. When thoughts come up i just let go without focusing on them or trying to over come them. I like to see thoughts like a note on a piano, you can play a note then it dies out into the silent mind, however if keep getting caught up in your thoughts its like your hitting the key over and over again. I guess that this is what you mean: love/light Wrote:The passive meditation involving the clearing of the mind, the emptying of the mental jumble which is characteristic of mind complex activity among your peoples, is efficacious for those whose goal is to achieve an inner silence as a base from which to listen to the Creator. When you see creepy clowns, it is *not silent meditation*. It happens to me too sometimes. Not with the creepy clowns, but with other distractions of not so positive nature. What I do, is to go back to seeking this silence, where Creator is, and from which It speaks. RE: Meditation Techniques - Rake - 07-01-2013 Cultivating stillness! When I am able to silence the mind it's as if the darkness i'm starring into sweeps around me. RE: Meditation Techniques - Unbound - 07-01-2013 I don't really see darkness anymore, myself, there is always light and colours in everything, every shadow is moving. |
