Another thing to try is to give other people your attention while maintaining equilibrium. So, split your attention equally. One half is stays in your body, keeping you grounded. The other half is totally focused on the other person. RE: giving your full attention to others - reeay - 02-27-2013 There's also an awareness that there are other self around self, and that we may each affect other self. So in a sense, giving attention to others includes giving attention to our inner processes and how we affect others by our actions or whatnot. RE: giving your full attention to others - norral - 02-27-2013 exactly . its an awareness u bring to each encounter. if u are fully present and your attention undivided u will be aware of the other self and your self and how both selves are affecting each other. which u would hope would be the purpose of dialoging. its a goal i have for myself something i am working on. i definitely dont check text messages on my cell phone but sometimes i am guilty of giving more attention to the computer than to others which is not good. norral RE: giving your full attention to others - Unbound - 02-27-2013 Silence speaks. I know just what you mean, norral. I have been guilty of this, too, and the fact that you posted helped bring it to my attention again. I understand what some are saying here about your "full" attention. But I think I take your point to mean to realize how discourteous it can be to divide your attention between a person in front of you and a person at the other end of a communication device. I know how much I dislike it when my step-daughter comes to visit all the way from Texas, then sits with her face glued to her phone screen still texting her friends back in Texas. Or when my hubby finally gets home from a long day at work and I'm still texting someone or checking Facebook or something. Thank you for the reminder dear friend.
