yeah, but while watching it, I sort of wondered if the Prime Directive of Star Trek kicks in at some time. I mean, just because we know these tribes are there, should we go out and meet them?
it's sort of different here because we are on the same planet, and the same species, but the technology gap of our culture has a way of inevitably changing others' culture.
too much status quo on my part? a fear of change? not sure
in the end, history progresses through meeting and greeting other tribes.

yeah, I still have problems sometime making eye contact at my workplace. But I'm getting better about these things

He addressed this. He said that contact with the rest of the world would inevitably happen soon, with 'civilization' encroaching upon them, and he'd rather that their first experience be with someone who cared about them, than with someone who would just chase them off their land and destroy their home.

How synchronistic, I watched this video last week and was going to post it here! There is some controversy around this video, where some people believe it had been 'staged' or 'faked.' Didn't get that sense tho...
I've worked with cultures and groups of people who have had difficulty adapting into the 'western paradigm' but they find their own ways... and they enjoy some aspects of widening contact (like getting medicine for malaria or enjoying different food etc.,). We humans are, at best, versatile and resilient. But part of the process is to 'mourn' losses of the life before... Bittersweet.

The man on the film was identified as Jean-Pierre Dutilleux, who was a filmmaker, not an anthropologist. Seems like some french journalist investigated the background of this film and found that it was made in 1996 or 1999 and staged. They were able to identify the people as actors who worked in other films.

I was wondering whether this was real, I remember learning in Anthropology class that the most recent "first contact" scenario was in the 1950s, but my memory gets mighty foggy sometimes.
What I find interesting is the "Cargo Cults" that have begun to spring up around Papua New Guinea. Basically the tribesmen believe that they can get Cargo (what they call western goods) if they can properly mimic the actions of white people, i.e. clearing land for a landing strip, setting up a control tower hut and then having someone sit in there with headphones made out of coconut shells or something and pretend to direct air traffic towards them. White people make fun of these practices but there are instances where it works, where bush pilots will mistake these landing strips for the ones where they are supposed to land and in doing so make contact with the tribe and set up trade.

You are full of wisdom Plenum, in many many many areas! I think we all thought this was real... and it's quite possible that 'first contact' happened in a similar way (I thought it was real at first although I thought hmmm 1970s and the video quality was this good?). youtube is full of 'myths' and erroneous assumptions.

The 'video' is not video but 16mm film, hence the good quality. He uses a tape recorder to record the tribes songs etc. This would also be in line with the date of 1976, You can see a tribesman following the rotation of the cassette with his eyes, he then makes a circular motion with his hand.
He is also the founder and president of the Rain Forest Association of France.

Sorry for the bump - but Jean-Pierre Dutilleux is a hero.
This guy has spends his life working with 4th world peoples and defending their rights.
He worked along side musician Sting and even wrote a book together with him.
He met the Pope and won awards for his filmmaking.
No hoax folks, this guy is now my favourite Belgian.

I dont think anyone was being gullible about Dutilleux, but looking at different sides of story. I did read about his efforts. It was the people on youtube who put the wrong information about the nature of this video so we were initially mislead.

This sort of video really increases vibration, brings tears of joy to the eyes, so an agenda to 'de-bunk' is obvious.
People are so used to accepting facts from 'authority' so I just wanted to remind the forum about due dilligence.

It seems to me that the effect it has on us is more important than whether it's true or not.
Anyway, if there really are multiple timelines, we can probably decide whether it's true or not, depending on which timeline we choose to be on. I've seen that happen numerous times.

the timelines still exist i think. it's just that all the timelines converge at some point.
anyways, to me it was real. the affection between the white man and the tribe people seemed very genuine.

Progress is VERY slow without catalyst.
I know, it sounds and feels so CRUEL, but this is the explicit request of the entities involved in the culture.
They desire soul growth and are willing to suffer pain both physical and spiritual in order to reach their soul contract goal.
