Thich Nhat Hanh recently passed away - 3-24-2022 - 04-09-2022

Thích Nhất Hạnh - Wikipedia
I remember seeing his name and photos in book stores.

He was a famed Vietnamese Buddhist monk, and I haven't read any of his books but wonder if anyone has? He wrote very many, and established a Buddhist temple in France.

It seems his story is a complicated one. Hue the city where he was from in North Vietnam was once the capital of Vietnam for a very long time until 1945 when it changed to Hanoi. He had problems with both the north and South vietnamese, as Catholics sought to oppress Buddhism or solely promote Catholics positions of power in South Vietnam, while the communists of north Vietnam detested religion or any form of spirituality as it is a theme of their ideology to be atheist.

Ngo Dinh Diem - Wikipedia

I say it is a complicated story because the French, Catholics and other western powers had a long struggle with vietnam, far longer than the American war dating back centuries.

Catholic Church in Vietnam - Wikipedia

The church is improving its relationship with the Holy See and there are others pages you can find about the topic but Thich Nhat Hanh is definitely a name I remember.

I have known of TNH for many years, have read his books. There are many videos available of him. He meets with Vietnam War soldiers.

I knew he had moved back to his home village for his last days.

In memory of Thich Nhat Hanh, I share (again) one of my favorite poems of his, which is (to me) the essence of Law of One.

I have read one or two of his books, I really enjoyed the simplicity of his teachings and he was such a beautiful soul to watch on YouTube too. His interview with Opera is nice to watch and I believe this is where he shares how Martin Luther King was his best friend, he served in the finest of ways.

Thich Nhat Hahn will always be remembered and his teachings are truly timeless.

He came to Los Angeles once a few years ago. he held a public meditation in a large public park, we were probablly about three hundred people but dispersed throughout he park and then he started to do a walk through the park which was intentionally a 'kind' walk on Earth so we all moved following him like a wave moving through the park, walking slowly and mindfully and with kindness and gratitude towards Earth. Quite wonderful.

Thank you for your comments.

Hue was the site of a fiece battle which turned the American public against the war

It's often overlooked how after the US withdrew, Vietnam went to war both with China and Cambodia. Angkor Wat is another place important to Buddhists. I can only imagine how much sadness the man must have felt.

How fortunate we are to have been able to walk the Earth at the same time as this loving soul. So many simple, yet profound insights and awarenesses coming from his life. This is one of my favorite clips of Thich Nhat Hanh:

"Do animals and plants have consciousness? Are electrons alive? Thich Nhat Hanh in dialogue with University of Virginia Astrophysicist Dr. Trinh Xuan Thuan." https://youtu.be/XAw74kZYpCI
