Pull towards name change(in real life) - Glow - 07-27-2017 Im just curious if others have this strange pull. Since I started unbecoming who I was and started walking the path to discover the me that lies beneath I have found this strange pull to change my worldly name. It's been a few years but I never thus far found the name. I'm starting to think it's just a subconscious desire to part fully with my old self but till I get right back to the start/end maybe there will not be a right name that will last, and at that point I won't care. Still this weird urge remains. Maybe I just need one for the journey to symbolize my intent. I remember when Prince became "the artist formerly known as Prince" and had a symbol instead. I was given at one point a 4 digit number (it's a spiral number so actually infinite) that represents my fractal of light. I'm not sure I could get people to call me by a 4 digit number though lol could start signing things with it though. Anyways I was just curious if others on the path have this feeling of wanting to un identify with who they were and start identifying as who they are underneath. The them they are moving back to. RE: Pull towards name change(in real life) - YinYang - 07-27-2017 I can't really comment on the pull towards a name change, it's not something I ever considered... or will ever, I don't think. As for a symbol, I read Alan Watts' biography over the weekend, and he apparently always signed his correspondence with a circle, done with a single brush stroke, which kind of became his signature - his symbol. ![]() The circle represented sunyata or ku, roughly translated as "emptiness.”, which was a focal point in several of his talks. I was actually in tears in the end of the book when I read this. Quote:As the news of Watts’s death was announced, messages poured into Druid Heights, and Jano and the Druid Heights community sent out a letter of reply with a circle drawn on it in Watts’s calligraphy and tamped with his Chinese seal. "Alan joins us,” it read, "in thanking you for your farewell message. Listen, and rejoice, as his laughter circles the universe.” It was such a contagious laughter... RE: Pull towards name change(in real life) - Aion - 07-27-2017 I have many, many names. They are just gateways to all the different identities. You may just be outgrowing the identity you feel you have attached to your name. The solution is to either change the identity or to change the name. The path is up to you. I at one point chose to start including my middle name as much as possible when before I had kind of shunned it. It happens that we change. I think the hard part is that people feel 'stuck' in their 'legal' name, because there is some big thing about that, but I personally don't believe you can ever really 'lose' a name. That doesn't make sense. Once you have been called by a name it is part of your vibration, so you are better off maybe examining the contents of that name and seeing where integration might benefit. THEN, go ahead and pick out a new name in which to forge a new identity. Just don't leave unfinished business in your old names, imo. RE: Pull towards name change(in real life) - Nía - 07-27-2017 If calling yourself by a new name would be the right thing for you, as it seems, the new name will come to you. I'm speaking from my own experience, because I changed my first name, officially, from Nicola to Nía. Nía just fell into place one day, after a number of other names have suggested themselves or been suggested to me (by others), but never felt completely right. I love the combination of a simple shortening of the original name (not everything that was attached to the name is necessary/helpful anymore), plus a new sound and meaning (Nía means 'radiant' in Irish, which was just a bonus, and still feels a bit 'too big' for me). It will come to you when the time is right! -`ღ´- RE: Pull towards name change(in real life) - Nau7ik - 07-28-2017 I read about Prince changing his career name to a symbol that represented Love to him. I think he did that because people were trying to take advantage of him. I see it as a deeply symbolic and powerful move. I can't say I've ever had to desire to change my name. I dont think names are all that important, but your given name at birth is unique to you. Just like we are born under a certain configuration of stars, it's no accident that your name is what it is. Kabbalistic Gemetria could yield some further information for you. It may be helpful or it may not be. Anyway, do as you see fit! Good and sound advice from the posters above ![]() |
