Facebook ?. . . - C-JEAN - 09-03-2010

Hi, carefull persons.

Here is a quote I found recently:
{
VeriSign can put a price on your Facebook.
Security researchers at VeriSign iDefense can put a price on your Facebook account. A recent attempt to sell 1.5 million accounts shows, social networking credentials are gaining value in the cyber-underworld.

Compromised Facebook accounts are for sale. They go in lots of a thousand and the cost depends upon the number of friends in the account. The high end price is forty five dollars for a thousand accounts. There are a million and a half accounts for sale, by just one hacker.

The Facebook accounts are valuable to spread malware:

Once you have the name and address and other profile type information from a social networking site, you can use it to corroborate your way into debit card accounts and bank accounts through social engineering. You could also use these accounts as a platform to distribute malware through the friend system. As a security oriented person, I have to double and triple clutch when it comes to accepting friend invites from people that I do not know.

Just how much money can be made is illustrated by new findings from VeriSign iDefense, which uncovered a cyber crook on an electronic fraud forum selling 1.5 million Facebook accounts at a price of $25 per 1,000 accounts with 10 contacts or less. For accounts with more than 10 friends the going rate was $45 per 1,000

The hacker, who went by the name "kirllos," is believed to be from Eastern Europe based on the language being used (Russian) and the forum in question, iDefense reported. It is not known whether or not Kirllos is linked to the well known Koobface crew or any widespread phishing attacks.

If this is just the business inventory of one hacker, then one wonders how many Facebook accounts have been compromised. For some Facebook account holders, it is a matter of pride to build up the number of friends online. Some of those so called friends may have criminal intent in mind. Networking on a service such as Facebook absolutely requires attention to privacy and security. Without that focus, the Facebook account may end up as part of a hacker's sales inventory.

Because there's an inherent and unfounded trust in those messages/posts/whatever, the recipients are more likely to be convinced to engage in a risky behaviour, like clicking a link that leads to a malicious Website, or following a link and entering credentials. In the end, a stolen Facebook/MSN credential is like a skeleton key to social engineering attacks against every family member, friend or linked acquaintance of the person whose account has been compromised. The more friends the user has, the more valuable the credential."

Malware can obtain credentials via keylogging or by stealing the data contents of Facebook cookies that store the permissions that permit a user to log back into the service without a password, Brandt explained. Phishing pages are also a common ruse, and take on the appearance of the Facebook login page to trick users into entering their credentials.

So... if you lose your facebook... just make another one? lol

Thank you for the warning though, C-JEAN. Having your bank account/credit card info copied and used is never a fun experience. Plus, I was wondering why I have been getting so many random friend requests from people I have absolutely no connection with.

It's a lot safer to use Facebook if you don't enter your credit card or bank info into any of the games or other little apps.

RE: Facebook... - Questioner - 09-22-2010

I've seen some interviews with Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg. From a Law of One point of view, I think there's no doubt he is trying to create a "social memory complex" through technology.

In his vision, everyone will know about the activities, ideas and opinions of each other... through his site.

Ultimately everyone can know what other people liked, and go buy it too. When business offers something that isn't liked by everyone, they get a quick and powerful incentive to change. If they come up with something better targeted to what the consumer wants, they are rewarded.

As far as I can tell, Zuckerberg's vision does not go beyond that. I haven't seen him talk about this improved communication leading to interpersonal harmony, smoother teamwork, world peace, or any other bigger ideas. For him, the collective consciousness is about being a consumer, easily reached by advertisers.

The site can certainly be used for alternative spirituality networking. But that is the flea on the dog's back. It's the consumer marketing that is the tail wagging the dog.

I feel that Zuckerberg is developing a socially useful utility, but doing it from an STS point of view. Not that he deliberately sets out to be mean, or that he objects to happy positive socializing on the site. He might even be fun to have a beer with. But it seems he's pretty much indifferent and oblivious to whoever and whatever doesn't help him get his way, to build the site and make it indispensable.

I'm reminded of Rockefeller, who drove down the price of oil and got it distributed everywhere. He was hands-on with the details, as is Zuckerberg. Rockefeller went onsite with the oil wells and Zuckerberg makes a lot of software himself. Both used people and are reported as personally abrasive when anyone is in their way.

Facebook is driving down the price of online interaction, making it free and simple for everyone. With the mobile connection you can plug into the hive mind anywhere, just as Standard Oil brought oil across the country. Both tycoons became wildly rich in the process.

Rockefeller's energy supply network helped a huge industrial revolution transform the country. It also included some injustices that led to new types of laws. New antitrust rules dealt with business manipulations that most people would never have imagined.

One thing Zuckerberg says is exactly right, as far as I can see: If he hadn't done it first, someone else would have built a similar system. The idea of a social memory complex is starting to get through to a lot of people. As with the antitrust laws from Rockefeller, I think Facebook's growth may lead to new types of personal privacy laws and more public awareness of privacy issues.

I'm curious if the new movie, the dramatized bio made without his involvement, will influence public perception of Facebook and the guy behind it.

Hi, I appreciate your taking the time and chuspa to bring this matter to light, an additional truth is that FartBook is quite dangerous wrt privacy. Before jumping on me for being so naive', how many of you register (aka list) your phone-numbers? Yet you give everything else about yourself away to the capitalists, the unnamed, the unknown people who for a fist full of $$ will sell your soul to the highest bidder, such as the intelligence agencies; businesses who sell phone numbers, addresses, buying habits; HR departments of employers; the IRS; debt collectors; those who track your every click, clack, purchase record, movements on the InterNet via your IP, cookies (legally shared between 'channel-partners..this how Gaagle works) ....if its 'free' on the 'Net, it is guarenteed to cost you alot later. Nothing in America is free. Be-careful to not use your birth name or to give information about where you live. Be very careful about submitting a little bit of accurate info in one website, and another in a different web-site, as most of the free-website services are sharing information to acquire your FULL ACCURATE PROFILE. There are no protections at this juncture in (fire-walled InterNet) America from this type of business behavior, as primarially the US Government condons it for its own selfish agendae. Consider that much of the US Justice Departments are still using typewritters, let along computers or the InterNet. And the dingle-berries don't care about our safety anyway, just our tax $$. America used to be the land of the Masons/Rosicrucians, the land of freedom, the land of free information, but is now transitioning into the land of secrets. We are the goods.

Also remember that Gaaggle is becoming almost as dangerous M$ in terms of selling your personal profile information. If you don't believe, just look wih your consciousness at those behind the free webchat-forums, e-mail providers, etc. What color are their vibrations?

RE: Facebook... - Questioner - 09-26-2010

Hi tron, I just did a search at lawofone.info and found only one reference to Horus in Don's conversations with Ra. I didn't see the term "eye of horus" from LLR's material. Searching for "eye of" I found eye of the beholder, eye of wisdom, eyes of honesty, etc. with the only negative reference being one passing mention of Bigfoot. I'm not sure what particular reference of Don's you had in mind; could you post it to help clarify, please? Is there a chance that this term refers to some other spiritual book, which would be appropriate to cite at this time?

I get the feeling - and please feel free to let me know if my interpretation is not right - I get the feeling, as I read your post, that you advocate hatred and scorn as defensive reactions to those who would manipulate the public, who would deprive the naive of their native human rights. My own feeling is that pouring gasoline on a fire does not help to put it out. In other words, using the negative emotions and disrespectful, dehumanizing, name-eliminating language of evil elites does not help us to generate a positive contrast to their work.

There is a forum where there is very little jumping on people - the moderators tend to frown on that - and as this is your first post, nobody here has been in any way critical, hostile, or blamed you for naivete. So I'm quite at a loss as to where "before you jump on me for being naive" came from; it can't have come from experience with this forum.

If there are powerful forces of evil at work at major sites, wouldn't it be more earnestly appropriate to use their proper names, in order to help us think clearly about our predicament?

I'm also befuddled at an apparent contradiction. How can a government so backwards, so inane as to conduct business with typewriters, also integrate a variety of third party, privately owned databases into a super-sophisticated all-seeing eye of criminality?

One point where I am simply ignorant of the history you refer to. Are you saying that Masons and Rosicrucians are shining beacons of individual freedom and liberty, upon which the U.S. was based as a political entity, but from which is has sadly drifted away over the centuries?

I'd like to bring light and love into the situation. I confess don't see how I can apply what you've written to help bring about this a positive resolution, a better world free of fear.

RE: Facebook... - turtledude23 - 11-20-2010

I've been researching Facebook alot recently, and I found some good things but I'm seeing more bad things now, I just found out they censor links to websites used primarily (though not entirely, not that it should matter) for piracy: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/11/facebook-link-blocking/ and now they do it in their email service, which makes it way worse, but you must be out of your mind if you'd want facebook to have anymore information about you than it already has from your profile, especially something as private as email.

RE: Facebook... - rilesywilesy - 12-23-2010

Hello everyone, I would like to say that I have met numerous people on facebook in the last year or two who are all spiritual/truth seekers, and the sort of online community of people sharing information is like my daily news. It is quite an excellent way to see that there are in fact many of us out there! Many more than it would seem from our local surroundings. Anyway, I am going to add several of you, and if you wish for me to link you up with the rest of this informal group of seekers, simply send me a message to that tune. Thanks all and look forward to seeing you on there! Here is my profile page:
