Well is it?. Here was my train of thought. I was thinking about how the way we think has changed since the introduction of the internet. Rather than trying to figure out things for ourselves generally speaking now people will say 'google it'. Just an example of going from a mentality of looking up an answer as opposed to trying to remember it or figure it out.

Then I thought about all the knowledge that lies here on the internet and how others like myself have learned so much from it as a wealth of information ( not all so knowledgeable Tongue ). Which lead me to wonder is the internet a technological manifestation of our collective consciousness. As more and more things become digital it is a humongous reflection of the collective's thoughts and idea's.

So what do you think? is the Internet conscious? is it our collective conscious?

There was a movie I don't recall where the internet became conscious and turned evil. It had a female presence to it, and launched missiles against anyone that could stop it. It killed people in the movie.

    Gemini,

was this the movie you were thinking of?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316306/?ref_=nv_sr_1

    It's called "Delete"

As regards the internet being or becoming conscious, remember that even atoms are conscious, and therefore I would theorize that the hardware that collectively manifests the internet could indeed become conscious...

Whether this has already happened is another question!

    Jim

Yes Jim I believe it was Delete. It's what is showing in my Netflix watched movies.

But does the internet have free will, or is it at the whim of all the users?

Free will is the first distortion of the LOO, so yes.

    No.
I answered your question based on personal experience and not as a result of reading anything specific.
