this is the Sun card.
which represents the nature of the self as being a sub-sub-Logos (two steps down from the logos).
it is easier to relate to as our Sun, which is a sub-Logos (one step down).
the essential characters of the 'solar self' are:
* self-generating
* a co-creator
* established in full independence
* fully creative
* non discriminating (as to what the light shines on, just like the sun shines on the entirely of the planet, the solar self radiates upon all)
the sun archetype lies one step above the moon, their relationship being the experience of the spirit (the moon), and the significator of the spirit for the sun.
this is what Ra has to say:
there is a relationship in the 'clarification' of the moon and the corresponding 'brightness' and 'radiance' of the sun.
as has been hinted, the moon and the moonlight speak to the illusory perceptive patterns of the self. Just like we gaze into the night sky and see the moon changing phases, growing, becoming fully 'pregnant', and then waning once more, this is just surface perception, although surface perception having most real effects (the movement of the tides for eg).
when in truth, the moon is always 'full' as a physical object, a sphere of solidness of which we only perceive aspects over changing time. We grasp the changeability of the spirit (the 'experience' or interpretation) rather than the object or reality itself (the moon as solid, non-ephemeral physical fullness, not deficient, ever).
this 'working in the moonlight' or generating full clarity from confused perceptions (so-called 'unhappy experiences), leads to the brightness and radiance of the self, the sun, the solar self.
Don queries the Sun Card:
80.17 Questioner: How would you describe the Significator of the Spirit?
Ra: I am Ra. In answer to the previous query we set about doing just this. The Significator of the Spirit is that living entity which either radiates or absorbs the love and the light of the One Infinite Creator, radiates it to others or absorbs it for the self.
80.18 Questioner: Then would this process of radiation or absorption, since we have what I would call a flux or flux rate, be the measure of the adept?
Ra: I am Ra. This may be seen to be a reasonably adequate statement.
- -
this 'flux rate' is the final outcome of the work done in the moonlight. The degree to which the fullness of reality may be seen (the constant full moon rather than the perceived changing phases of the moon) is commensurate with the constancy and full-spherical radiance of the self.
the sun may be blocked in many ways. It may prefer to shine on some rather than others (accepting some people as being more worthy of approval than others, disapproving of those other individuals that act counter to our beliefs or ideals. ie some people are more deserving of our light and attention than others). And the sun may fluctuate in its radiance, depending on how we view ourselves, whether with love or disgust; the negative emotions putting a pall or cover over the sub-sub-logos.
this 'sun' can be all so magificently bright and radiant, offering light, love and joy to all those that even approximately approach the solar self.
it is an aspect of time/space radiance; that is not hindered by physical objects or physical distance.

this is what Ra has to say:
Quote:80.10 Few there are which are successful in grasping the light of the sun.
Quote:80.10 By far, the majority of adepts remain groping in the moonlight and, as we have said, this light can deceive as well as uncover hidden mystery.

Quote:80.15 The Experience of the Spirit, that which you have called the Moon, is then, by far, the more manifest of influences upon the polarity of the adept.
*** Even the most unhappy of experiences, shall we say, which seem to occur in the Catalyst of the adept, seen from the viewpoint of the spirit, may, with the discrimination possible in shadow, be worked with until light equaling the light of brightest noon descends upon the adept and positive or service-to-others illumination has occurred.
