I wanted to ask whether the people on this forum, when it comes to taking in personal stories etc. Think it is necessary to have a severe leaning toward the positive or if stories of a nature which involve potential confusion etc. Are interesting as well.

I.e. What kind of things do you like in the media you consume?

In what context, Phoenix? Are you referring to forum posts, entertainment, what we see on the news..?

I left it personally open because I often like it when threads diverge from their original meaning and mutate into something different.

However, I did mean like personal stories. Basically, in reading some of Obama's work I've found his style of agonising over various matters to be quite fulfilling, so I was wondering whether personal stories are best when they are overtly positive or if they have parts of confusion and vulnerability in them?

Alas, is this query too abstruse?

Abstruse. Isn't that word its own definition? hee

Ok; just checking, really. I don't particularly enjoy going off on a tangent only to find my response was based on a misinterpretation. Makes me feel stoopid, at least initially.

It's important to me that a forum is based on flexibility and has such a feeling of safety and camaraderie between the members that people can post what they want/need to say. The 'safety' comes, in part, from the respectful way folks approach differences in their experiences and understandings.

I personally enjoy when people can just share, 'warts and all'. I'm not here to impress or be impressed, really; I'm here because I find tremendous value in sharing the way we do here.

Books I read, for I find them more fulfilling to read as the author has truly taken their time to formulate whatever information they wish to communicate. I'm not sure if this can be classified as media however.
The classical media I never consume, ie: newspapers, TV, radio.
The downside of this is that my knowledge of things become highly specialised and never broad and knowing of all things that happends in the world, I live in my bubble so to speak. But for me that's a good thing. Smile
If less people consumed the daily newspapers focusing on tragedy, the latest weight-loss theories and general meaninglessness the world would be a more harmonious place I'm sure...

I personally like to dive into media that is confusing and/or negative when I feel like having a little "study" of people's perspectives, and what then tie that into whatever possible motivations I can imagine that would lead them to those perspectives. Conspiracy forums are amazing for this. I never post on them or join, just read and think, lol.

That's what I find myself doing a lot of when I just want to pass the time at home, with a nice fat plate of rice and beans on the side Smile
