Sorry for the 'negative' comment, but I have a friend that worked for Red Cross (mentioned in the donation links) for 10 years. Considering all of the blatant waste that goes on there, not sure that is the 'charity' you want to give your money to. Remember they wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars alone on the Katrina tragedy by funding hotel rooms to people that weren't even affected. Sorry, not sure how to put this, they're 'morons'.

Graham Hancock's book about that would probably be interesting. i've never trusted charities. cuz really, how do you know what they do with the money?

Well all I'm saying, is that if you want to 'help' donation-wise, then pick an organization that is prepared to act with your money in a manner that you expect. It could be as a proxy to your particular intentions of what it means to help or whatever. Obviously, one certainly doesn't have to be 'scammed' or defrauded to effectively 'throw away' one's money to a charity.

But how do you know for sure what organization using money "wise" or just throwing it away, if you don't work there? Any organization can raise money for specific purposes, but then make a misstake and use minor part of not so wisely, or is it just the Red Cross?

    An excellent guide, thanks.

Saundra's site, http://goodintents.org/ , is a useful educational resource. As individuals, I think we can always learn more about how to more effectively offer our assistance in a particular situation. If more people were informed, they could make better decisions over what constitutes 'help' and actually focus their concern.

Quote:Good Intentions’ mission is to provide donors with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed funding decisions.

Donor decisions do matter. The types of charities and projects donors choose to fund impacts the type of aid recipients receive. The pressures donors place on organizations affect the quality of assistance charities provide. Unfortunately well-intentioned donations can accidentally reward bad aid projects and punish good ones. Good Intentions is dedicated to providing donors with the information, tools, and resources they need to ensure their donations match their good intentions.

It was a listing of alternative resources and ways of checking out a chosen charity as well as the Red Cross method.
