sorry for being off topic!
Do you really recommend the book?
I have it in fact but never read it.
I am being highly put off by his music, if the "archetypical ego" would play music, i imagine sounding it like him.
So, thats why i didnt read it yet.
Do you like his music?
Maybe you are too busy listening with your own ego rather than listening to Music?
I honestly haven't listened too much but I like his style, very prog and groove oriented. That kind of instrumentation is totally normally in prog, psychedelic, improv, jam styles of music. Music is an immense entity to me and I really got out of the habit of 'listening for what I like' and changed to 'listening for Music' and it has really enhanced my understanding of sound and music in general. He has a wicked sense of groove and rhythm.
The purpose of different instruments is to express Music in different ways and there is no right way.
Also yes, I highly recommend the book because whatever you think of his playing there is solid musical understanding there.
Plus, solo guitar players are a dime a dozen and acoustic players are all over the place. I don't see what's wrong with playing another instrument solo, it's still just a stringed instrument. It still creates just as wide a range of frequencies and melodies as a guitar (actually it can create tones the guitar can't make).
