Just listening to this album recently, I realized it might have some of the most profound metaphysical lyrics of any album I've ever heard. Not from the point of view of expressly discussing esoterica, but from a purely aesthetic / emotional point of view. That's what makes it so great -- it talks about such subtle characteristics of the mystery of existence. Neutral Milk Hotel writes poetry that seems to take a very archetypal view of what embodiment is like, how it feels and how memory mixes with sensation. When action comes from another sector, you lose this feeling. ---- Jalaluddin Rumi, 13th c. Sufi poet
