Me too..I interned on a medicinal herb farm this year and I'll be studying herbalism formally. Organic farms love (and need) volunteers and it's a great way to meet like minds.

"New research from Johns Hopkins Medical School shows that performance increases due to caffeine intake are the result of caffeine drinkers experiencing a short-term reversal of caffeine withdrawal. By controlling for caffeine use in study participants, John Hopkins researchers found that caffeine-related performance improvement is nonexistent without caffeine withdrawal. " Though it is new research.

Jade, how are you doing with this? Any progress?

Thank you for asking! I think I'm pretty much over it. My body is still reeling a bit from the hit to my immune system, but I haven't had any coffee since the day I quit. I have 1-4 cups of tea per day, as it's now the only thing I drink other than water. I haven't really thought about coffee and my energy levels are basically the same. It was a physical addiction that I had to process through the body to eliminate - I think I'm done.
My husband of course had the flipside (psychological addiction) and I think he's all good as well. The past couple days even he's spoken about how he's over it, which is a funny juxtaposition to when he was clawing his eyes out and pulling his hair in desperation. He's been drinking a pretty strong breakfast tea in the morning but he's ready to ween himself down from that (sort of tastes like brewed dirt). The other morning we got up at 6AM to go to the farmer's market and didn't even brew a pot of tea before we went - the idea of going to the farmer's market without a cup of coffee or two before was unfathomable! So I believe the beast has been tamed!

Glad to hear it! Whose painting is that?

Reverse image search says it is Léon Bonnat, entitled The Youth Sampson. It was the shining star from a not very well thought out image search (apparently the string "slain lion art" includes many photographs of real trophy hunters...)

Cool thanks Yeah I can imagine.
I've jumped on this train as well since I felt coffee just gave me headache (if I didn't drink it) and I would constantly be alert/sleepy/alert/sleepy and completely exhausted when I left work!
I'm now diving deep into the realms of tea!!!! My coworker just gave me a wonderful tea mix – kushmi tea sweet love. I also found that I enjoy the yogi tea sweet chai. I feel I'm in a much more balanced state throughout the day.

I'm gonna drop this here:
http://www.gongfu-tea.com/ This is a local tea shop that has 150+ loose leaf teas from around the world. I'm blessed to have access to it, but I can share because they ship. A "good" tea will cost you $6/oz, but an ounce brews 12-15 cups of tea. Recommendations: Ancient Happiness (a floral green tea), Dalai's Daily (my current morning coffee sub), Lemon Hibiscus (another floral green that is awesome iced with some additional lemon)

Funny, I don't like lemon in my tea. But I do like lemonade.

I've never been a coffee drinker, but my hubby had major headaches withdrawal when he got off Cokes.

I slipped up today, for the first time, on accident. We ordered take-out from a vegan restaurant in town, and I had seen a couple weeks ago that they were making pumpkin drinks for fall. We usually get their homemade chai drinks which are delicious, have a bit of caffeine but are coffee free and awesome substitutes. I order two pumpkin chais and it turns out that their "specialty" drink was actually pumpkin chai lattes. They were at least ~$7 each so it's pretty unfathomable to just waste them. Might not be able to sleep tonight! (PS - the coffee does NOT taste good to me, 'twas a rude awakening when the espresso hit my taste buds!)
