so ... I'm about halfway through day 3 of a spontaneous fast. The urge came out of the blue, and three days is the longest I've made it before (I tried it in my early 20's).

so far, I've felt zero hunger pangs

I'm drinking plenty of water, with just a few chia seeds, out of habit really (I like the consistency of chia seed water lol). I took some vitamins yesterday (1 each of vit c, b5, beta caratene).

I had a bit of soreness in my right knee for a few hours yesterday, but I've felt that tinge before. Maybe there is some rebalancing going on there.

I didn't sleep that well last night, but the previous day was full of vivid and amazing dreams.

consciousness still appears to be clear and vibrant; I have not felt any changes in my energy body tho.

like I said, this was totally spontaneous and unbidden, so I'm just going to ride the wave to see where it goes.

if I get to 40 days, I promise to stop lol.

    peace y'all BigSmile

I'm too scared to fast! Working on fear is so difficult for me, haha!

I used to fast for 30 days straight once a year as part of my previous faith.

First few days will be fantastic. All I can advise if that make sure you keep hydrated and up your carbs a little when you notice Dizziness/ Fatigue/ Interrupted sleeps; essentially the symptoms of Ketosis which you will experience.

yeah thanks Hors. the fast I'm undergoing is a straight up fast, rather than an alternating fast which is what I think you're referring to. Both, of course, have their benefits, but I'm not exactly sure why I've received this signal to do this now. A similar thing happened a few years ago when I got a spontanous impulse to meditate more, and it was like the subconscious way saying: "hey, you're ready to take the next step. this is the way to go", but not in so many words lol

yeah, and I'll keep an eye out for that ketosis thing. Not sure I really want to end up looking like a skinny Gandhi BigSmile

@seed the whole idea of fasting freaks me out too! don't you need food for energy?? I'm not exactly chubby and have tons of reserves ....

Perhaps it is a call signalling that you are ready to increase your vibration which usually comes about from a cleaner diet? Also to note is the date. Many reasons why, but the main point to note is that you've heeded the call which is great.

Yes, that was what I was referring to. Most recently it was an average 16 hour fast (That also meant no water. Not easy Lol) however the primary concern is usually the onset of Ketosis as the body switches primary energy stores.

I have actually been nudged towards the same direction myself. Good luck!

Edit: Well look at that. 100 posts. This calls for a celebration.

Started a juice fast yesterday, first day of my vacation. I noticed "thought hunger" pop up a couple of times without the real hunger. Today I don't feel hunger yet.

    just as an update:

I did finish up my fast; I got a little bit into the 4th day, and learnt what I needed to learn.

it was the obvious lesson: to be more grateful for food (and in general) all inputs into my experience. Because I have not appreciated them in the past as fully as I do today, I just had to offer myself some forgiveness for past oversights.

so that was the lesson from my unconsconisous. Message received!

    BigSmile

@Pickle I actually felt quite strong and robust during my fast. Energy not expended for digestion just continues recirculating. Although, with your diets, they have less strain on the body to begin with.

also; I was on vacation too; its the best time to do these type of things.

I have fasted dozens of times, and the times that happened spontaneously were the best. Suddenly this wave of blissful clarity would wash over me and I knew I had to fast...suddenly food was alien to me.

When I've done intentional fasts, the first 2 days were rough but by Day 3, hunger was gone. Then, after about 5 days, I'd be on a high that would last another week or so...10 days worked the best, in most cases. 2 weeks got a little rough towards the end, so I knew it was time to eat.

I always do fresh juices. Just no solid food. Juices keep the strength up so you can continue your normal activities. Doing water only can be depleting. I found that juice fasting was more productive, because I could do it much longer, than water fasting.

(Definition of 'fast' is no solid food...a juice fast can provide all the benefits of fasting, both physical and spiritual, without depletion.)

I've never heard of anyone fasting without water. What is the reason for that? I would strongly recommend against that. Fasting releases toxins and water is needed to wash them out. Fasting without water would mean that toxins are reabsorbed into the body, so the fast would be counterproductive.

Oh, it was a religious fast actually (No food/water/anything from sunrise to sunset), back from my days as an adherent of the faith, and I agree with you on the side effects of not drinking water whilst doing so.

Nevertheless, these days when I partake in such I make sure I am adequately hydrated throughout (though don't be telling my family that, I'm a closest Spiritualist Lol!)

Ah, yes you did mention that, but I didn't mentally click on the no water part too. Ok, thanks, I'm relieved that there isn't a 'fast with no water' 'health' philosophy out there.
