I really understand what Q'uo is saying. I find that everyday living (everyday catalysts) is the most effective way "to understand, to balance, to accept, and to move forward from" as Ra said (17.18).

another way of looking at magic, perhaps, is to equate it to Creativity.
for eg, look at the lives of very creative people: artists, composers, but also scientists who were 'creative'. the creative part comes from not just using the Magician to think (conscious aware mind) but drawing upon the infinite resources of the High Priestess (the subconscious, or literally all mind). a common response to seeing a creative artwork or hearing a beautiful poem is: how did you do that? I can't imagine how you thought that up. this is the magician (conscious mind) gawking and wondering that it couldn't create this by itself. the magic comes from drawing upon the resources of the high priestess, and creating from that deep place of infinite fertility. magic, on many levels, equates to being creative. A novel solution, a new idea, a something from a nothing. it is given physical form by pulling a rabbit from a hat. But in truth, magic is mental.

Bumping this thread in hope for a reply from my dear friend and co-Tarot enthusiast, Plenum, and curiosity as to what his answer will be.

So your bumping proved to be quite effective. I have a nasty habit of not reading everything as it unfolds in a thread but rather just jump around and pursue my own interests. It is not conducive to a debate or dialogue, of which I am not reknowned for being the most skillful anyway lol. to address your points, I think I am in agreement with everything you have written. You have also expressed it with skillful precision. although, I should make it clear, that even though I find Ra's outline of the tarot archetypes to be extremely useful (the 3 sets of 7 for example) I actually bypass the IMAGES most of the time. For whatever reason, I try to access the archetype directly, and live the energies that it has to offer. So a lot of the analysis of the symbols of the cats and crabs and boxes and whatnot just pass me by. It's not that they are unimportant; but rather they are placeholders for the beginning learner, of which I do not consider myself one. what you write about gadgets and their use, and untimely use rings very true for me. For those who are Ancients (and I will defer to your term for now miley) or old souls, those who have seen and lived much, the gadget can often reconnect one's current incarnation with the bountiful wisdom of one's soul stream; and we have probably seen this effect in our mutual friend GV. I am at a loss to explain the meaning of the vine. I could, of course, cheat by using google, but that would be most dishonest and disingenuous on my part miley I did, however, dream on this card this very night, so we are in connection in some way. It was about the coin, and the falling away of money from the thoughts of the seeker. This was then generalised to the whole effect of money; which concerns the use of metrics or measurements. Numbers based thinking (which is most felt in finance and currency which dominates our culture) is anti-thetical to quality based thinking. Qualities are what give the uniqueness and flavor to all the expressions of the Creator. Number based thinking cheapens this by assigning a digit or series of digits to a person or piece of land or whatever, and thinking that this sums up the thing. Things can then be traded or substituted according to this number. But the qualities of the Creator are NOT interchangable. They are unique and beautiful. this dream helped expose some of my own continuing attitudes toward money and metrics. so, I am quite willing to trade you my insight (albeit a highly personal one) for one that you might have. I am sure you will appreciate the irony in my 'offer'.

Firstly Plenum,
It pleases me immensely that you and he are friends. He is extremely precious to me, as you, now, are yourself. It's not that they are unimportant; but rather they are placeholders for the beginning learner, of which I do not consider myself one. Now this is the mindset of one who truly understands the Cards. Very accurate explanation of making the connection between the fields of the reader and the receiver. Reading the Cards is getting into that Sacred Place where the two fields of consciousness meet and become one, sharing all that they have with each other in a vibrational experience that many, in our state of being, are completely unfamiliar. This the sharing which takes place, not because of the images or designs being interpreted on any of the cards. But rather because a 'divine connection' between two fields of consciousness, where at least one is capable of establishing such a connection, and upon consciousness connection, the one with power becomes spiritually, or intuitively, aware of the other's psyche and vibrational expressions which become stored into The All as memory. Now the one in power is enabled to sense experiences and hopes and even memories. I never do a reading without letting the other know this exact process. in this way I expect them to understand enough to make the connection easier. You are obviously skilled and highly intuitive. And I am sure that you know that there are many out there who read by decoding the many symbols and meanings found on any one card. They really don't connect with the other, they simply follow the letter of the book which translates the meanings, and calculates the astrological and numerical coincidences. I, like you, have no need of the symbols because, also like you, I read by connection, unburdened with the strain of trying to store, and be able to instantly recover, all of the symbolic designations and representations from memory. But, having said that, when one is able to combine the two based upon their own talents and capacities, the reading will be that much more enhanced. I cannot imagine anyone able to do that and manage any sort of circle. I think you are missing out on information which you may find extremely valuable. Like the Emerald Tablets, the Tarot is imbued with powerful and unique vibrations,(magic), which is accomplished by symbols embedded into it as a coded message. The Tarot is enchanted and the symbols are the runes which establish that charm. As the symbolism is decoded and the message revealed, the one who has mastered it has their field of vibration altered slightly, an enchantment which enables them with increased powers of intuition. This was the reason for its being created. The message hidden within it. That some have become aware of the enchantment of its 'magical' runes, is simply a bonus that we have managed to master and use to a purpose. I mean it's like being given a secret message, and with it getting a lemon cake with chocolate center on a silver platter. How freakin lucky can we get???? Yes, being able to swim in those dark waters must be similar to looking into my son's eyes. Absolute blending. Now that we have the difference between the symbolism of the runes/symbols/message, and the way which that enchantment has enabled certain practitioners to utilize that power/magic/energy/ to connect with other fields, I will address your dream dream the representation of the vine in those two cards in my next post.

What is the procedure when giving someone a reading? Specifically, what principles directs the presentation of the cards to the one asking for one? I happen to have the thoth deck by aleister crowley, and thought -hey why not. I have not examined the cards too much, but I do feel connected to some of them, specifically the one that is my avatar. The seventh card.

This is a quote that I wrote down in my notebook on the definition of magic which Q'UO stated,
Quote:magic is the use of icons and images to create changes in consciousness at will.

Any attempt at taking portions of the statement, and giving them your own twist and focus, in ignorance of the whole thought intended only separates you from the truth being stated. We are always confined to and restricted by our own capacities of comprehension and necessity to discern according to those limitations. But, even so, any attempt at discernment that becomes perverted by ignorance or deliberate manipulation for reasons of bias or self satisfaction, alters the true message and its vibration in such a way that what one has gathered is no longer that which was offered. It is much like the King Midas tale, except in this case everything we touch turns into something different than what it is. King Midas touches an apple and it turns into gold. You touch an apple and it turns into an orange. The lesson to be learned is that all of the gold/deceit in the world cannot make one happy when it is the only thing that they are left with. Magic is far more than the mere ritual and its utensils. Just as The All is far more than one fragment of it. 'Changes in consciousness at will' is critical to that statement and inability to understand that aspect of the statement disables any further understanding. |
