It's entirely possible. I know Jimi was a contactee.
Recently I heard an interview with a rock journalist, who told this story: Jimi was being driven somewhere by an acquaintance (another rock journalist, I think), and a UFO suddenly landed on the road in front of them, just a few feet from their car. The driver freaked out and panicked, but Jimi just said, "Cool! Space brothers!"
Eric Clapton was a big ufo fan back in the 60s and subcribed to Flying Saucer magazine; he devoured every issue as soon as it arrived.
John Lennon was certainly a wanderer. His song "Instant Karma" was about what we are starting to experience now.
