What a great cover underneath which to sneak in your own worldview to the teacher, or whoever evaluated the essay. : ) Though I suppose that interpreting art of any kind - lyrics, painting, song, etc. - is a sort of Rorschach test that reveals something about the interpreter, so the teacher sees more about your opinions than the song's inherent meaning.
What kind of feedback did you get?
Having not heard the song, I would think the lyrics better as a poem, as I tend not to be a lover of heavy metal.
And in my reading the lyrics seem more descriptive of going to another place, another realm, another state of consciousness - specifically, escaping - rather than entering this moment more deeply. It sounds a bit drug-induced to me. : ) I don't mean that in a negative or critical way, as the author of the lyrics paints of a picture of pleasant, blissful experience. What's to knock about that?
Whatever it's meaning, it's a beautiful piece, GV.
