Sacrifice means the entity chose it. Cows and pigs aren't sacrificing, because they have no choice in the matter.
Hmm. Maybe I chose the wrong word, but I don't think you answered the heart of what I was getting at. Cows, pigs, lettuce, carrots -- they've all given their bodies for our nourishment. Honoring that gift is what I'm suggesting.

As Austin noted, it does, actually. A product that relies on the petroleum industry for transportation over long distances is less sustainable than one grown in one's own backyard.
