Needless to say, I was very disconcerted!

Forgiving myself has always been extreeeeeeeemely difficult for me. I have always struggled with that alot.

How true this is indeed for myself. I too am able to forgive others and sometimes so easily to the point that it baffles people I know, but I also find it true that I am harshest on myself and being able to forgive (and wholly love) the self, every day even, is not easy.
