It sounds like sleep paralysis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

I got it once. My whole body was paralyzed but I could open my eyes and looked around my room. I tried to open my mouth but I couldn´t. This was what shocked me the most. I had to fight hard to wake up properly. It only must have lasted seconds but seemed longer.
