i think it's up to each one to recognize that for themselves. i no longer play violent games much, but i enjoy some games. i like exploration games and Lara's acrobatics. i think moderation is a good thing to consider. i found the Wii sword game affects me badly. 
and sometimes i can't stomach violent games. but again it's up to the person. i won't vilify anything that is mixed polarity because there is free will there to choose.
