To me, the most important ingredients for rapid growth are faith and will. Faith that it is possible to grow in every situation, and will to seek that growth. Faith that reality is ordered and capable of being understood, and the will to seek to understand it. Faith that one is being guided by a higher power to grow, and the will to follow that guidance.
Without this faith and will, one will be limited by pain, suffering, despair, and depression. One will not be motivated to seek, to explore, to change, to understand, or to be curious. One will stagnate into the realm of indifference which leads to a lack of learning and growth.
Both paths of polarization require will and faith to process catalyst, and the speed of processing catalyst is a great measure of growth. One who has significantly grown can quickly process and properly respond to both a variety of types of catalyst as well as intensity of catalyst.

If one views salvation in terms of growing beyond the experience of suffering, then one can view the Christian tradition as viewing this growth as originating not by starting with good works, but starting with faith which leads to works. This growth is not limited by our past wrongs (grace), but it is enabled by our faith.
Ephesians 2:8
Hebrews 10:39
Finally, it might be helpful to consider the difference between construction and growth. Construction is performed when one builds buildings, tools, and gadgets while growth is performed by organisms such as trees, flowers, and humans. Construction is rigid, unadaptable, very orderly, and static while growth is flexible, adaptive, somewhat chaotic, and dynamic. Construction is good when you need a very specific structure for a very specific circumstance while growth is good when you want a very general structure for many possible circumstances. One who relies on construction and specialization to overcome suffering and processing catalyst (such as spiritual bypassing) will eventually be struck by lightning (Tarot Number 16). It is organic growth that lays the proper foundation for the sustainable long term despite having a slower start than construction.

Quote:Positive orientation then provides the will and faith to continue this mentally intense experience of letting the anger be understood, accepted, and integrated with the mind/body/spirit complex.
...
The negatively oriented mind/body/spirit complex will use this anger in a similarly conscious fashion, refusing to accept the undirected or random energy of anger and instead, through will and faith, funneling this energy into a practical means of venting the negative aspect of this emotion so as to obtain control over other-self, or otherwise control the situation causing anger.

Quote:For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

Quote:But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
