I think the Law of Squares is at work. If billions of people believe that it is beneficial, then that can trump whatever the original intent might have been.

Might not work for a single poisoned apple pie given to one person, but when billions of people are involved it changes the dynamic. It's not the first time that depopulation is attempted and it seems that every time the desire of the great many ends up thwarting whatever plans were instigated.

The thing is when each Earth human is given, shall I say, a needle for pointing a direction then what results is a sea urchin with the size of Earth.
