Well I dunno about US / Canada but here they are still being enforced. We actually have to wear the FFP2 masks, in trains and shops.
Some people sued saying politicians could not mandate which type of mask to wear, but the judges ruled that they could....
There was never a "recommendation". I think in Europe Sweden is the only country with "recommendations".
