It all depends on individual and collective consciousness and choosing.
Your experience of the game Spore was vastly different than mine. I fail to see where the connection to the history of Mars has any type of connection to that game.
Here is a brief description of the game:
Spore allows a player to control the development of a species from its beginnings as a microscopic organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation. Throughout each stage, players are able to use various creators to produce content for their games. These are then automatically uploaded to the online Sporepedia and are accessible by other players for download.
I enjoyed trying to coax carnivorous plants to become sentient beings -- think of a walking and talking Venus fly trap species. I don't see how a game about evolution is related at all to Mars.
I am not disagreeing or taking away from your interpretation -- but my own interpretation of that game was widely different and I found it quite amusing.
