I think it's more of a matter of work/time. 3D on Earth is intense, with some people polarizing 51% within 25k-75k year cycles, but 4D is typically millions of years long in which many approach purity of service at least for positive of 95%+ polarity.

So taking millions of years to approach 95% is a lot less work than taking 75,000 years to approach 51%. The work in 3d is a lot quicker, but there is work in higher densities just of a different and slower in terms of time.
