In the meantime, until the discovery, we keep using the incorrect spelling. The linked site is a third-party site where it's spelled "Berenstein". Click on the "official site link" at the bottom, and you'll see that in 2001 it was still Berenstain.
If reality changed, it would have changed the past also in a completely seamless way.
Our minds are great at finding patterns we're familiar with - like faces in trees and all those sentences floating around on the Internet where random letters are used to replace what's supposed to be there, but we can still read it and barely even notice.
Yeah, real magic is hokum.
