Gratitude is a state of being where you focus on what you have in the moment (everything you need and then some), not what you lack. It is also appreciation that all of these energies have coalesced into this one moment of time that is perfect for your being as an expression of the Creator. It means appreciating the lack, and appreciating even those who challenge you throughout the day and throw you off your center. It's recognizing that there is joy and the Creator in every expression that you witness, even those that appear otherwise.
I think this state of being (constant gratitude) can also be translated to "faith" - at least, that's what I think Carla is talking about in the quote.
