My feet fall asleep every time, sitting in a chair is the only thing that stops it.

I would sit in a chair. I honestly find cross leg poses counterproductive for that very reason. Focusing is the thing of import. Once your mental muscles are stronger, if you want to challenge yourself by successfully ignoring bodily discomfort in some weird yogic posture, go for it.
