Famed author Whitley Strieber recently had a dream that is quite relevant to this thread. He relates it here:
A Powerful Dream
I suppose I should add one of my own.
(Edited to add: because of the very annoying feature of this board, that places sequential posts of individual posters in the same box, I should specify that the dream related below is mine, and not Whitley's, which is linked above.)
I had this dream way back in 1982 or 1983, when I was in graduate school.
I found myself walking along a plain, with hundreds of other people. We were spread out, tens of yards apart, but people stretched to my left and right, and behind me, as far as I could see. The plain was very flat, and growing on it was sparse vegetation, the sort one would see in the drier areas of Montana or Wyoming; winterfat, dwarf sage, etc. All of us were walking in the same direction, headed toward something unseen.
As we walked along, people dropped out, one by one. The going seemed to get harder, and we had to crawl on our hands and knees. Many more fell, unable to continue. The going got harder still. We had to crawl forward on our bellies, like snakes.
There were very few of us left now. I kept going. Finally, I was the only one. I slithered up to a strange scene, and stood up.
I was confronted by a large round head, perhaps 6 or 7 feet across, levitating several feet above the ground, flanked by two enormous lions. The head appeared to be made of black stone, perhaps basalt or olivine. It resembled those Olmec heads found in the jungle of Tabasco, but it was much more intricate, and constantly changing, instantaneously morphing into other visages, all of which were bizarre and terrifying. However, I was not afraid of it. I perceived it as a sign that I was one of the "few", one who would carry onto the next phase of human existence.
At the time, I did not understand the implications of the dream. I think I do now.
