Norral, you have the headline of the day! Thanks for the laugh!
That's a cool story. I read about someone who was trying to get horse diapers for the horse drawn carriages in New York's Central Park. Apparently this is already the fashion for some of the horses in London!
Your comment about the corporate world reminded me of Lawrence Peter. A lot of people might have heard of the Peter Principle, a masterpiece of cynical realism that affects big business and big government: "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence." The cause of the Peter Principle is people who feel they have to climb a ladder for pay or prestige, but the next rung has nothing to do with the heartfelt joy and natural talents of the climber.
A lot of people don't know that Dr. Peter had fun with a follow up book, The Peter Prescription. In this book he suggests that everyone figure out what brings meaning and happiness to his or her own life. Get to your own level of competence and then stop trying to climb anyone else's ladder.
I think Dr. Peter would have been delighted with the couple in Fairfield.
Maybe they'll open a second location in the Hamptons, so that rich people's summer vacations can include changing the chickens! If Madoff had been humbled in this pecking order, might he have given up his wicked ways?
