As far as eating them goes? Well, I guess that's for you to decide... hard knowing whether or not the cow/chicken/pig consumed for lunch was invested in enough to be harvestable. I assume most are on the verge as they are taken out of their natural environments and put into completely man-made ones. I'm sure this gives them above average awareness to the typical herd species. Plants that are harvestable are usually in the form of trees, and even if your garden tomato plant is 3D harvestable you never kill the plant to eat it, giving it more opportunity to reach 3D if it's not.
