Notice that I told the story of my own husband and best friend, who took over 25 years to go fully vegetarian. In both cases, they had the goal in sight and never tried to justify their occasional meat-eating. This is very different from being content to continue eating meat, while attempting to justify it.
It's not about where we're at. It's about where we're going.
So I should instead try to justify being a vegetarian so I will one day "get there"? If I am thinking about where I am going, to the grave, then the whole concept is moot to me.
