This discussion, for some reason, reminds me of the film, Pascali's Island. In it, Ben Kingsley plays a spy for the Turkish Empire, I believe, and writes daily with reports about some visiting westerners. He also repeats his constant requests for a raise. When he goes to the bank for his stipend, it is never more than last time.
You get the idea that nobody is reading his reports--they go strait to a file or a fire. So if the spying on all of us grows, eventually no people and no software will give a damn, IMHO.
