I've been trying to filter this through the distortions of society when it comes to mated relationships, since society puts paramount the family and the love for the mated partner, at the expense of not loving other souls.

I also think society tends to promote conditional love and self-love as the paradigms of familial love, rather than heart based unconditional love.

As an extreme example of this, cold narcissists often love their children a lot - they identify their children as the self.
