He said that we each create the meaning in on our lives by having someone or something to love; or some good work to do; or the last of the human freedoms, to choose our own attitude in the face of hopelessness. He was from Vienna so you might have an opportunity to see some of the places he wrote about.
That book, along with Albert Schweitzer's memoirs, may inspire you as both of those men also brought the light of physical caring to those in need.
