Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are paid internet trolls. Here is the perfect example of "why" they would do this:

When I saw this article, I immediately checked the comments section to find that the most /liked comment (a few hundred) was one trying to spread awareness of the fact that this problem is caused by the growth hormones given to livestock. This comment was flagged enough times to be removed. Why? Because it interferes with profits.
