Just relishing my first picked and cleaned wild desert fruit (Albeit suburban 'wild')
Found a house with a cacti that grows prickly pear fruit a few nights ago. Found out the hard way why its called 'Prickly' pear fruit. (Still pulling out embedded thorns two days later). Today (last night) I grabbed some bags, my multi tool and a plastic fork and picked about 7 or 8 of them. Just cut up and skinned then gutted my first one to eat.
YUM YUM
Painful, but all tasty things are in their own way. Its like... Watermelon meets tart with a unique taste. Its fun to work with (more terrifying and teaches patience and gentleness to avoid pain).
Anyone else ever try to eat something wild where they have no experience what so ever?
