"Going vegan has definitely improved my own health. Before I changed to a vegan diet, I suffered terrible PMS, headaches, lethargy, IBS, regular migraines, eczema and various inflammations. My immune system was going into over drive. Something needed to be done. The vegan diet can be initially hard to get into, but if you can stick to it beyond the first month, it gets much easier."

But where do you get your protein?

    Same place gorillas get it!

You can find a lot of these videos on youtube, but if you just watch the trailer, you'll get the idea:

Beefy Bodybuilders get big on peanuts! Raw Vegan MUSCLE!

It is a myth that animal protein is needed for muscle mass. I have already told the story of my WWF friend who was raw vegan and huge.

Of course, belief systems play a part. If one believes the propaganda put out by then government agencies (with the agendas to control), the commercial beef and chicken industry, the pharmaceutical corps, the AMA, and on and on--any entity wanting to keep the current profit/money/control systems in place, then animal protein may be for you.

Quote:Kenneth G. Williams, a 44-year-old bodybuilder in Oakland, Calif., is a vegan who has taken on traditional bodybuilders and won. But first, there was the stigma.

“I had buddies at the gym, they just thought I was crazy,” Williams said. “I had a great physique and they said, ‘You’re going to get skinny, sick and frail, and die.’ I wasn’t encouraged.”

In 2003, Williams became vegan. In 2004, he won his first competition.

“When they announced me as the winner, people were very happy,” Williams said. “But once the announcer mentioned I was a vegan, the claps stopped and it got so quiet in that auditorium. Right on stage, it hit me: nobody knows about this.”

Williams is now a raw vegan; he said he never heated his food above 112 degrees Fahrenheit.

Sorry, but I still do not see the point of raw vegan. Really not. Getting free-range eggs and eating those in the morning on a near-daily basis seems like a much, much simpler and easier solution for a harmonius, non-harmful lifestyle that has no meat in it.

    I agree.

(07-09-2012, 02:30 PM)Oldern Wrote: Sorry, but I still do not see the point of raw vegan. Really not.

Going raw is entirely optional. It's something I have done off and on and feel very drawn to, but I'm certainly not suggesting that it's in any way necessary.

The reason I personally feel attracted to a raw vegetarian (not necessarily vegan) LIVEit is because I consider it the most sattvic, the highest vibrationally, and because of the heightened awareness and increased energy and vitality.

Some raw vegetarians toss raw free-range eggs into their morning smoothie. Nutritionally, that seems like a fabulous idea. I'm not sure if it's something I can bring myself to do, but that's probably just mental conditioning. Provided the eggs truly are free-range there's really no reason not to. (Never eat conventionally produced eggs raw - could have salmonella.)

My main objective in posting this info about vegan and raw vegan athletes, is to dispel the myth that vegans can't get enough protein. If even raw vegans can build huge muscle bulk, then getting enough protein on a vegetarian (with eggs and/or dairy) diet is ridiculously easy.

I see. Well, of course that is alright.
Still, a question remains in my head: what is body building in relation to energetic principles?

(And I recognize that this idea is offtopic in this thread, or side-topic, but since it brought the "issue" up in my head thanks to this thread, it might still have a place in it Smile )

Because to me, a body builder who just builds up a lot of muscle through hard work prepares the body for something that is never going to happen in the first place. The best fighters, the biggest hunters sometimes luck that amount of readiness to combat and that amount of excess kinetic capability. It is considered an imbalance as far as the body structure is concerned in my eyes. My view might be flawed in this, of course - but to lead my point of view further, my only question remains: if we eat clearer and clearer foods, what ideas to those foods represent?

Of course, the answer might very well just be this: "eating this way or another does not mean that you embrace everything that comes with the food and what it represents. It is just a choice". I consider what the shaolins do to their bodies a little bit biased towards self-perfection, but I bet they do not eat up more excess muscle than what is really needed BigSmile At one point the focus has to turn to the mind, does it not?

(//Edit: and feel free to ignore this if you feel like it does not fit the theme of the topic. Maybe we can open a new thread on it, I do not know. But maybe it fits after all.)

I have no idea; I'm not a bodybuilder! Tongue

Yes, that might be a good topic for its own thread. I just posted this as an example of what's physically possible on a vegetarian, and even vegan, and even raw vegan, diet. I wanted to dispel the myth that vegetarians can't get enough protein or be strong! There are so many top athletes who are vegetarian, it always amazes me that some people still believe the myth. It was dispelled long ago!

    Here's another vegan top athlete:

Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness by Scott Jurek, Steve Friedman

from a review Wrote:For nearly two decades, Scott Jurek has been a dominant force—and darling—in the grueling and growing sport of ultrarunning. In 1999, as a complete unknown, he took the lead of the Western States Endurance Run, a 100-mile traverse over the old Gold Rush trails of the California Sierra Nevada. He won that race seven years in a row, setting a course record along the way. Twice he won the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile “jaunt” through Death Valley. Recently he set an American record of 165.7 miles in 24 hours—6 1/2 marathons in one day. And he was one of the elite runners who traveled to Mexico to run with the Tarahumara Indians, as profiled in the bestseller Born to Run. His accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary, but that he has achieved all of this on a plant-based diet makes his story all the more so.

In Eat and Run, Scott Jurek opens up about his life and career—as an elite athlete and a vegan—and inspires runners at every level. From his Midwestern childhood hunting, fishing, and cooking for his meat-and-potatoes family, to his early beginnings in running (he hated it), to his slow transition to ultrarunning and veganism, to his world-spanning, record-breaking races, Scott’s story shows the power of an iron will and blows apart all the stereotypes of what athletes should eat to fuel optimal performance.

Thanks to Gary for recommending this book!

Most athletes or body builders are inspiration for others. Moreso than the monk that hides from the world. Even as they walk through the store shopping they attract the eye and inspire others.

I am now exercising to kill time at work. Feels pretty good. Wife likes the feel of muscles as well. Guess it is self enjoyment that is somewhat of a service to others.

I feel like this is part of the reason why I got into lifting in the first place. I would highly recommend it, I get a lot of attention just because of my body which is a good thing if you use it for good hehe. I'am quite good at it if I must brag so if you want any tips I'am your man.

I have cut down my meat intake a lot with no difference in muscle gain so I will probably go out and buy some vegan protein powder and drop meat completely and see how it goes. Will update this thread in a few weeks to relay the results.

I dont like to work out.

    But.

I like to keep myself in the optimum condition for STARTING to work out (not too overweight (shouldnt be at all right now actually), good condition, good blood screening, low toxin food, etc).

That way if i shift quickly to high toxin food, i'm good, if i shift to no toxin food, i'm good, if i have to just sit for a month and do nothing, i'm good, if i need to start furiously working out, i'm good.

I like to keep myself on the optimum end of the "no real work" required scale.

Hope that explains how i view "being in shape".
