Aquaponics is one of the most sustainable and productive forms of farming in existence and combines the traditional aquaculture (raising of fish, crawfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment. For many, aquaponics is a new area of interest. This amazing and SIMPLE method of growing organic food is strongly gaining popularity worldwide. With global food prices rising and drought being more common than not it is no wonder that aquaponics has become such an attractive alternative for those who want to grow more food in less space faster for less while minimizing their environmental footprint.

Aquaponics can be defined as as a farming technique to produce sustainable food through the symbiotic relationship between the aquatic animals and cultivation of plants in water. The congruous combination is beneficial to the both the plant and the animal life. Dissecting this process further, it can be seen as a practice combining two separable aspects of farming namely a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics treated as a single unit and not separate systems. Aquaponics is a combination of two agriculture methods to create an altogether superior and environmentally friendly way of growing organic food.
